Know Your Leadership Style

May 12
1 min read

Some leaders move quickly toward a decision. Others want time to consider details, build agreement, or understand how people will be affected. Becoming aware of your usual approach can help you communicate with greater intention.

An assessment conversation, including DISC and Motivators, can provide language for exploring those habits. Use the insights as questions to investigate in real situations. People deserve to be understood through their actions and circumstances as well as an assessment result.

Think about a recent conversation that did not go as planned. Did you move faster than the other person could follow? Did you offer more detail than the decision required? Did you leave your concern unspoken?

Ask a trusted colleague what they experience when working with you. Listen for one useful adjustment. You might state your request earlier, allow more preparation time, or explain why a decision matters. Practice the adjustment and ask whether it helped.

Try this week

Ask someone you trust, “What is one change in my communication that would make working with me easier?”
