Build Trust Every Day
People notice what happens after a leader says, “I will take care of it.” The next conversation, the promised update, and the unfinished task all become part of their experience of your leadership.
Start by making commitments clear. Name what you will do and when you will do it. Before agreeing, check whether you have the time, authority, and information the commitment requires.
When circumstances change, tell people early. Explain what has changed, what you can still deliver, and what needs a new agreement. This gives others a chance to adjust their own work.
If you miss a commitment, acknowledge the effect without burying it in excuses. Ask what needs to be repaired and follow through on that repair. Invite the same honesty from your team. A steady pattern of clear promises and visible action gives people something dependable to work with.
Try this week
Review three open commitments. Complete one, communicate an update on one, and renegotiate one that is no longer realistic.
